I can receive but not send email whats wrong?

The most common cause of this will be your internet service provider.

For your mail program to send email from your pc your computer must talk to the mail server, it does this using special ports.

The standard port for email is port 25. However in some instances internet service providers may block port 25 in an insane and badly thought through attempt to stop spam being sent by their network.

If you can not send email but you can receive it try this:

  1. Lets see if your internet provider has blocked port 25. Click Here and a site will open in a new window. When you get to the site simply enter 25 into the little "what port?" box and click "check.

  2. You will then be given reults if it says something like this:

Error: I could not see your service on 99.99.9999.99 on port (25)
    Reason: Connection timed out

that means your ISP has blocked the port.

  3. OK now go to your mail program outlook express, incredimail or what ever you use and open it.

  4. Click on Tools>accounts to see a list of your email accounts.

  5. Select your email account from the list and click properties.

  6. You should now see a window with a few different little tabs at the top.  Find the advanced tab and click it.

  7. Look for the setting for Outgoing mail SMTP it will be there somewhere with the number 25 next to it.

  8. Change the 25 to 26 save the changes then try to send an email again.

This should fix the issue for you. The instructions above will be good for windows mail, outlook express or incredimail. if you use a different program it may vary slightly in which case contact the support for your mail program and ask them how to change your smtp port to 26 in your mail program.

If you have multiple email accounts in your mail program you will have to change those too.
