| Before you can access your site via FTP you need to give the program information such as user names passwords and the ftp adress of your site. Below we will walk you through setting up Go FTP ( the program we recommend) to access your site. If you have a different FTP program the settings will still be similar you will just need to follow your softwares setup wizzard or instructions. 1. Open Go FTP then right click in the left window and choose the "New Site" option. 2. Type the name of your site eg "2001 Web" this is just a reference for you. 3. Now look at the right side of the window and in the host box type ftp.YOURSITE.com obviously you need to insert your site name.
4. In the user name box type your site user name this is the same username you use for access to your Cpanel for your hosting. 5. In the password box enter your cpanel password. 6. The account box can be left blank. After you enter your password the program will automatically check your connection and let you know the result of the test. To connect to your site just select it from the list in the connection manager, then click the "OK" button.
You will connect like lightning to your site.
Now what you see is a split window. The window on the left contains all your files and folders on your pc. The window on the right is the files and folders currently on your website. To transfer files to or from your site, you simply select the file in the appropriate window then click the trasfer button at the top of the page. If you want top move multiple files you can hold down the ctrl key on your keyboard then select the files you wish to move with your mouse. Once you have selected all the files you want to move, click "upload" or "Download" at the top. Navigating the files on the site is done in the same way you would on your pc. Example if you want to see whats in the "Images" folder on your site, double click the folder and the ftp program will open it. To go back up a level click the little black arrow above the remote window. That's it you can now upload or download folders, pages and images to and from your site.
