Changing Permissions On A File Or Folder

Sometimes when you install a program you may be asked to give it certain permissions here's how you do that with file manager.

First log into your cpanel normally

http://www.yoursite.com/cpanel

Scroll right down the page to the last box in the middle column you will see a link named "File manager" click it.

This opens in a new window so make sure your popup blocker is off.

Now we need to navigates to the folder or file we want to change the permissions of.

To go inside a folder click the FOLDER ICON next to the name of the folder you want to open. To select a folder or a file you click the name.

For this example lets say we wanted to change the permissions on your main image folder to 775 heres how we do it.

Click the FOLDER ICON next to public_html

Now click the word "Images" because we dont want to open the folder we want to select it.

A new text menu will appear on the right of your screen.

Click "Change Permissions"

Here you can enter the new permissions that are required by the script and click change to update them.

You can change permissions on individual files or folders.

FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF THE PEOPLE WHO WROTE THE PROGRAM CAREFULLY.

Setting incorrect permissions on a folder can make it unviewable by the public. Setting the wrong permissions on a file can make a program not work.

Always be careful with this.
